  • 3 pounds (1.5 kilograms) russet potatoes , peeled and quartered Substitution Available
    • Yukon gold potatoes
  • 1 teaspoon (5 milliliters) Garlic Powder
  • 1 teaspoon (5 milliliters) salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2 milliliters) Pepper, Ground White
  • 2/3 cup (175 milliliters) milk
  • 3 tablespoons (45 milliliters) butter
  • 1/2 cup (125 milliliters) shredded sharp Cheddar cheese

Preparation

  • 1 Place potatoes in 4-quart (1 L) saucepan. Cover with water. Bring to boil. Reduce heat to low; cover and simmer 15 to 20 minutes or until potatoes are fork tender.
  • 2 Drain and return potatoes to pan on low heat. Add garlic powder, salt and pepper. Mash with potato masher, gradually adding milk, then butter. Stir in cheese.
