  • Caramelized apples
  • 1/3 cup (75 ml) butter
  • 1/3 cup (75 ml) packed brown sugar
  • 6 small apples (about 1 ½ lb/750 g) peeled and cubed
  • 2/3 cup (150 ml) whipping cream (35%)
  • 1/2 tsp (2 ml) Organic Ground Cinnamon
  • Buttermilk Waffles
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/4 cups (310 ml) buttermilk
  • 3 tbsps (45 ml) melted butter
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 1 1/4 cup (310 ml) all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsps (30 ml) granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp (1 ml) salt

Preparation

  • 1 To make the Caramelized Apples, in a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat; stir in sugar. Add apples; cook, stirring occasionally, until tender, about 10 minutes. Add cream and cinnamon; simmer, stirring, until sauce thickens slightly, about 3 minutes. Keep warm.
  • 2 To make the Buttermilk Waffles, in a large bowl, whisk eggs, buttermilk, butter and vanilla. In separate bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder and salt; stir into egg mixture just until combined. Let stand for 5 minutes.
  • 3 Heat waffle iron; grease well. Using about ½ cup (125 mL) batter per waffle, pour onto waffle iron. Close lid and cook until golden and crisp, 4 to 6 minutes. Repeat with remaining batter, greasing pan between each waffle.
  • 4 Test Kitchen Tip:
    • Place waffles in single layer on wire rack-lined baking sheet and keep warm in preheated 200°F (100°C) oven.
