        Billy-Bee-Canadas-favourite-honey

Founded in 1958 as a small family operation, Billy Bee has grown to become the largest honey business in Canada. We are very proud to support our community by only using pure and natural Canadian honey from producers in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

The pure, natural honey is carefully packed fresh from the hive to avoid losing its delicate flavour, aroma and natural goodness. Billy Bee is 100% pure and natural, with no other ingredients, additives or preservatives.

Each batch of honey goes through rigorous quality controls in all stages of production and packaging to ensure only the best honey reaches the marketplace. Our lab technicians test each batch to ensure we give customers the best flavour, purity, colour, texture and aroma they deserve. From our easy-pouring liquid honey to our smooth-spreading creamed white honey, you can taste the difference of pure, natural honey to every drop!

See What All the Buzz Is About

        Billy-bee-see-what-the-buzz-is-about

For millennia, honey has been sought after and cultivated for a variety of uses. Humans collecting honey can be confirmed as early as 8000 years ago, evidenced by cave paintings in Spain. It is mentioned in ancient Egyptian texts where it was particularly revered and used as an offering to the gods. In the modern day, it has become a staple of household pantries across the globe — spreading sweetness and adding a bit of joy, from breakfast to dessert.

Honey is made by honey bees as a product of foraging for nectar and storing it as food within complex honeycomb structures. Billy Bee is proud to offer products that are 100% Canadian, fully sourced from Canadian beekeepers. We are also proud to be a part of the True Source Honey™ Certification program that ensures all our suppliers are traceable and the origins of their honey are as transparent as possible. Look for the “100% Canadian” and “True Source Honey™” logos on Billy Bee product labels.

        Partnerships That Make A Difference

Billy Bee is proud to partner with amazing local organizations that give back to the community. We support major Canadian beekeeper conferences and only use 100% Canadian honey fully sourced from local beekeepers.

Billy Bee also sponsors the Honey Bee Research Centre at the University of Guelph, which supports the important funding research to help honey bee populations around the world. Billy Bee makes an annual donation to the Honey Bee Research Centre to support essential research focused on the health and well-being of honey bee populations across the country and around the world.

While you may not think much about honey bees, they play an extensive role in North American agriculture, one of the largest food exporting regions of the world. In fact, honey bees support billions of dollars in U.S. and Canadian agriculture through pollination services! However, a major decline in honey bee health has put agriculture and worldwide food security at risk.

This is why supporting Canadian beekeepers and the Honey Bee Research Centre is so important to us, as their work allows honey bees continue to play a key role in agricultural productivity and ecosystem sustainability by providing pollination services to crops and wild plants.

        HBRC And Canadian Beekeepers

As a leader in research and education, of the Honey Bee Research Centre at the University of Guelph conducts essential apiculture research primarily focused on honey bee health.

To encourage honey bee education, the HBRC offers university-level apiculture courses and weekend beekeeping courses. In addition to these courses, the University of Guelph Honey Bee Research Centre offers a variety of free beekeeping how-to videos on their YouTube channel as well as educational reading material on their website to further educate the public.

Beekeepers continuously work to achieve a healthier future for honey bees. They have the important job of promoting solutions for high quality honey bee forage and nutrition, using the best available tools and hive-management practices, and working together to improve the outreach, research and education of honey bee health. The work they do supports overall bee health and populations, which in turn has a positive impact on global honey supply, as well as the general ecosystem!

Billy Bee is also very proud of our certifications and industry support, including being Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) inspected and approved, Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) SQF Level 3 Certified, Organic Certified (QAI & Canada Organic), Certified Kosher (Cor 30) and Halal, True Source Certified and a Member of the Canadian Honey Council.

The Canadian Honey Council is the national association of beekeepers representing apiculturists across Canada. As a member of the CHC, Billy Bee is a part of a community where producers, packers, professionals, provincial associations and officials from various levels of government can gather and recommend action in the best interests of the Canadian honey bee industry.
